Could I use this cassette (13-29) to replace current 105 12-25?
With a trip to the Alps coming up, I'm wanting to replace my current cassette to get a lower gear than the current 25. Would this do the job or would the chain also need replacing?
Additionally, would I be better off with the Shimano 105 11-28, for the higher gear (downhill!) and keeping the 105 consistency? Imagine 28-29 isn't a huge difference either? Thanks
Hello there, I think you would be perfectly fine with the 13-29.
Ultimately, you would have a bigger ring for climbing. A colleague that that I work with, he's also going to the Alps this month. And he's also going to be running a 13-29t. If you've got fairly big rings on the front, like for example, 53-39t, you will find a really cool easy going ratio that will pick up quickly, but, yet, will still hold top speed.
As for the smallest ring on the rear cassette, the 13t, you will feel a slight difference from the 12-25t you're used to running, but you will feel more nimble, you will accelarate quicker, so in saying that, you will have a higher cadence, so you should be able to churn up the same sort of top speed output in less spin revolutions as you would if you was running a 12-25t.
The 13-29t would be perfectly fine. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.
